Singing and Moving in the Rain...

Letting Earl's Moving Company take the stress out of moving, even in the rain!

Moving in the rain in Alabama can be a hot mess! We had rain everyday for a month it seemed in the spring. Now it has slowed down a bit, but there are those pesky thunderstorms that tend to pop up on our hot, humid days.

When it is raining on your scheduled moving day, there are a few extra steps to take if you are planning to assist. Keep an eye on the weather for a few days prior to the big day. If there is suspicion it may be raining, it is easier to be prepared a day or two earlier. Safety is the main concern.
  • The moving truck will want to be as close as possible to the entrance to your home to keep your belongings as dry as possible. Clear all drives and make arrangements for parking away from the closest route in.
  • Make sure there are rugs and towels on the floor avoiding slippery shoes and tracking water onto hardwoods and carpets. Ensure they are laid out flat, taping if necessary.
  • Don't get in a hurry. A rainy day will take longer to move than a sunny, dry day. Be prepared, be flexible and don't over-schedule the day.
  • Suggest everyone wear sneakers to avoid slipping on wet ground and floors.
  • Set up an assembly line at each house, handing things out to avoid everyone getting wet and keeping inside floors dry.
  • Have extra towels on hand for people to dry off. It is a good idea for everyone to have a change of clothes.
  • Place as much outdoor furniture, grills, etc under a covered area beforehand to avoid moving wet furniture on a moving truck with inside furniture and boxes.
  • Cover fabric furniture and mattresses with plastic. Protect boxes so they don't become weak.
  • Schedule carpet cleaning for the day after a move to avoid tracking clean floors and carpet.
Earl's Moving Company will move your belongings in rain or shine! Call today for rates and information. Allow them to move you into your new home or business, local or long distance.

Earl's Understands Moving with Teenagers

Earl's Moving Company is family owned and will make the teenager(s) move an easy transition.

You have just accepted a job at a new location and it means a move. Perhaps you have been transferred. Whatever the reason if you have a teenager, this may not come as good news to them. Go ahead and tell them, don't wait. Giving them plenty of time to adjust to the thought will be easier for them than springing it on them last minute. Give your teen time to prepare.
There are ways to help your teenager adjust to the thought of a move. Be prepared for anger, then sadness, and hopefully eventually acceptance, possibly even excitement.

Whatever his or her response, don't disregard their feelings. Listen and try to sympathize with them. Allow them to be upset. Especially if moving a long distance, teenage years can be a difficult time to change schools and leave friends. If it is close, or even if it is across the state, perhaps weekend visits may be possible.

Don't be surprised with angry words, the silent treatment or slammed doors. There may be a sad phase they will experience. Comfort them and keep listening. You cannot solve the problem, but continue to be understanding.

In the plans for moving, take time for a going away party. Allow your teenager to have friends over to celebrate a new place to visit on summer vacation. If appropriate, an enticing gift from you may be a new camera or cell phone to share pictures with friends long distance may be an option.

From the beginning, offer to let them be involved. If it is possible, let them go with you to look at the new house, drive around the new neighborhood and past the new school. Find areas of interest for each child such as the ball park, movie theater, skating rink or baseball stadium. Gather information on activities the new school offers that may not be available at their current one. Visit a church in the school district so your children can meet other children they will be attending school with.

Make them feel important now, that their feelings matter. Discuss painting his or her new bedroom and perhaps shopping for new accessories after the move. Your teenage daughter may be interested in helping to choose new drapes for the living room or furniture for the dining room.

The caring team at Earl's Moving Company will relieve some of your stress by packing and relocating all of your personal belongings to your new home safe and sound. This leaves more time for family. Pray for God's guidance if your teen is less than happy about moving. Ask them to pray for peace.

Earl's Moving Company is an Expert in Moving with Babies

Earl's Moving Company packs and moves your family as if you were their own!

With a newborn in the family, Earl's family team especially understands the needs and possible stress that can come everyday, especially if there is a move involved. If you are expecting, or have a new bundle of joy, planning ahead will go miles toward keeping anxiety at a low level.
Moving while expecting a baby with Earl's Moving Company
If you are expecting, taking care of yourself is the most important priority, even during a move. You may be more tired or not feel well. Making preparations early to move will lessen the load. If you have been participating in prenatal exercise classes, don't stop! You will need to continue as much as possible in your current routine to feel as great and be as healthy as you can. If you are moving out of the area, ask your current doctor for a referral. If you will need daycare or a babysitter for your newborn, make the calls and interview to determine the best place to be on a waiting list. This will save time later when you may have less energy.

One week prior to moving, change your address. There may be important papers from insurance or the hospital, or gifts and cards from family and friends. When you are moved, you want to be able to focus on getting settled and enjoying your new home, not tracking down lost mail. It will feel good later to have this checked off your list early.

Pack a briefcase or box with important papers you may need until you can begin unpacking. Keep this with you, transporting in your car. Include health insurance information, social security cards, birth certificates, immunization records, credit card information, closing papers or rental agreement and pictures.

Pack an overnight bag, maybe two! Make a list beforehand or even begin packing what you can early. Include any vitamins and medications, toiletries, snacks and even special pillows. If your baby is already here, make sure you have enough bottles, diapers, changes of clothes and toys.

If your children are older, give them small boxes to put their games and toys in along with colored stickers or labels. They will be excited and feel involved, saving you a little time in the process.

When you arrive at your new home, avoid the temptation to begin randomly unpacking. Begin with bathrooms, make your bed, then get your children's bedrooms in order. Pace yourself, it will not all happen at once. Staying calm will keep children calmer, which keeps you calmer!

Earl's Moving Company provides personal service from your first phone call until you watch the truck pull away from your new home. This caring team is the perfect fit for your move, packing and taking care of your personal belongings as if they were their own. That is one worry you will not have as your possessions are delivered safely to your new home. Click here for more information, then call for more information.

Moving in the Good Old Summertime...

Earl's Moving Company will pack and move your personal and business belongings, even in Alabama humidity!

Summer is the busiest time of the year for moving. School is out and people relocate during this downtime. There are a few things to think about during hot summer months that may not be as relevant during cooler months of the year.
Moving in the south in the summer Earl's
Planning ahead is the first step. Since it is the busiest season to move, contact Earl's several weeks ahead of the date to reserve the day. Even if it is close, check with Earl's anyway as there may be cancellations. Try to schedule your move early in the day during the coolest hours.

If you are planning to pack any of your possessions, gather boxes, tape and other supplies early. Spreading the work into several days will assist in summer heat. Pack and label as many boxes several days before Earl's truck arrives. If Earl's will be packing for you, creating an inventory for each room will be helpful when you arrive at your new destination.

Certain items may need special attention as a moving truck will be hot. If it is possible wrap, pack and move candles in the car to avoid melted wax. Musical items such as instruments, DVD's, CD's, and yes, those of us who still have vinyl records and possibly cassettes, should be packed separately and kept in a cooler environment. Other electronics such as computers and laptops may need special attention. Making a list or combining these articles in a room together to load last and unload first will avoid unnecessary stress.

Moving Day has Arrived:
  • Pack a cooler of water to keep you and your family well hydrated
  • Wear light clothing, comfortable shoes and sunscreen
  • Keep an extra change of clothes with you
  • Take short breaks throughout the day and cool off
  • Pack a complete overnight bag so you can shower and enjoy a good night's rest at the end of the day
Heat stroke is a real danger in summer moving. With these tips and preparation, Earl's Moving Company can make summer moving a breeze!
