Overall Helena is brimming with young families, but a number of young at heart senior citizens enjoy calling this active city with 'small town feel' home as well. Helena Sports Complex is the hot spot for all things "ball"; baseball, softball, soccer, football, basketball as well as cheerleading. The first class schools located in Helena are second to none. Helena Elementary School is the home of the former Helena Junior High School which was opened in 1925. After many renovations and additions over the last 87 years, Helena Elementary is one of the largest elementary schools in the district with over 800 students and 87 faculty and staff members.
Almost 900 students in grades 3 - 5 call Helena Intermediate School their second home. The school opened in August 2001 and is part of the Shelby County Schools system. The school is proud of their contribution to the community by providing a state of the art media center, child nutrition program and after school program.
Over 800 students, grades 6, 7 and 8, attend Helena Middle School. The goal of the faculty and staff at Helena Middle School is to successfully transition 6th graders and preparing 7th and 8th graders for high school, then college. The middle school offers a number of electives and extracurricular activities. These include plenty of sports to choose from, art, band, choir, scholar's bowl, math team, and many others.
Over 1,000 students welcomed the new Helena High School opening in 2014. The students voted and chose the Huskies for the mascot, and black, silver and bright blue for the school colors. The new school features a modern media center with wireless environment, award winning band, almost 30 clubs and organizations, and an almost endless variety of sports to choose from. The school's mission is to provide rigorous, relevant, student-centered education that will equip all students with the essential skills necessary to succeed after high school.
