Effective on July 1, 2014, Pelham City Schools separated from Shelby County School System, becoming Pelham Board of Education. This allows the city to focus on the schools in the city of Pelham. We have the opportunities and we have all of the resources we need to be the top system in Alabama." Councilwoman Karyl Rice said.

Many exciting changes are still expected for the Pelham City Schools including Pelham Oaks Elementary occupying the current Valley Intermediate School as early as 2016. Pelham Ridge Elementary School will open for academic year 2016-2017, adding convenience for many families. The new Pelham Park Middle School is scheduled to open in the fall, 2017. 

The City of Pelham, the Pelham City Board of Education and Dr. Jason Yohn, Principal, have set a lofty goal of becoming a world-class school system. Pelham High School, home of the Panthers, looks forward to continuing on the aggressive path of re-branding Pelham High School this second year of the new school system. It is the school's goal that each student receive a high quality education and achieve individual goals in a safe and orderly environment.
