Considering Relocating Your Place of Business ~ 104

With combined experience of more than forty years, the professional team at Earl's Moving Company offers tips for relocating your office. They have been around the block several hundred times, know the ropes and can skillfully pack and move your office quickly and cost efficiently.

Whether the reason for relocating your office is that you need more space, less space or a bright, new location, being prepared is the key! Moving from Hoover to Atlanta is certainly a huge undertaking, but even relocating from Alabaster to Calera calls for preparedness.

As soon as you have decided to 'make the move', whether local or long distance, it is important to create a timeline. If your office is small, it is a good idea to allow three months for planning, packing and getting everything in order before moving day. Allow six-eight months in a medium sized office, and up to a year in a large office.

Local Move, Long Distance Move

Choose your move in date and begin your timeline working backwards.

Create a list for your timeline, including items such as:
  • Appoint or ask for volunteers from each department to establish priorities, make sure deadlines are met and coordinate each area. This team will ensure employees pack their desks, files and personal items. They will also keep employees up to date on the progress of the move, hopefully keeping a positive atmosphere. Also all employees should be made to feel comfortable offering suggestions for the new space.
  • This is a great time to clean out and clean up files, desks, computer files, etc. Send outdated information to storage and destroy what is no longer needed. This will save time, energy and money when moving day arrives. It will also create a clean, fresh start in your new office space.
  • Decide what you are moving, such as furniture, cubicles, equipment, records and files.
  • Request the floor layout to identify electrical outlets, storage space, etc.
  • Create a new office layout. Measure and plan for each employee's desk, cubicle or office space. Don't forget common areas, such as storage rooms, shipping area, server room, kitchen, reception area and conference rooms. Take into consideration each piece of furniture, filing cabinets, and office equipment.
  • Call Earl's Moving Company to schedule professional packing and add your moving date to their calendar.
  • Notify leased equipment providers of the move to confirm the best way to relocate copiers, servers, etc.
  • Notify service providers of the move in date to avoid downtime in telephone and network infrastructure.
  • Confirm no additional painting or construction is needed prior to the move in date.
Keep in mind to have an internal plan to keep employees up to date and an external plan to keep vendors and clients up to date. Being prepared, making sure everything on the list is complete, and communication will guarantee the most stress free move. Depending on Earl's Moving Company will leave you free to carry on with business with as little interruption as possible.

Considering Relocating Your Place of Business? ~ 103

The decision to move your office space is the first hurdle to actually making the move!

Alabaster, AL, local and long distance moving

You may begin by making some lists to reach a decision. Weigh the positives and negatives about your current space. Create another list with needs and wants for a new office space. How do the advantages and disadvantages of your current office compare with the list of requirements for a different building?

Considerations may include:
  • Cost - If there is comparable office space for less, it may be to your advantage to explore a new location.
  • Space - If your business and staff are growing, you may want or need a larger building. Perhaps more work is able to be performed remotely. In this case, your space can be downsized.
  • Market - Is there greater access to your market in another part of town or state where your business can grow?
  • Employees - Are there talented employees in your field elsewhere searching for your line of business?
  • Location - Your company may need to be closer to an airport, hotels, or entertainment for clients, meetings or out of town employees visiting.
Now may be the opportune time to consider a corporate move. As your business grows and changes, office space may be a good place to begin re-evaluating. When that time arrives, remember Earl's Moving Company, Alabaster, Alabama specializes in packing, unpacking and moving offices, from large corporations to small businesses.  Licensed and insured, you will be happy, and less stressed if you allow Earl's Moving Company to take care of your work family.

While it may seem overwhelming, even scary, to consider a corporate move, it may be just the boost your company needs. Never fear relocation. With the right research, your move will see your business soar!

Considering Relocating Your Place of Business? - 102

Commercial Moving, Alabaster, Alabama

Buying vs leasing office space?

If your company has grown, or perhaps you are not in need of as much space, you may be considering relocating your office. No matter the reason, before making a decision on a new place, consider the benefits of leasing office space vs. purchasing a building. There are plenty of advantages of each. The future of your business will determine the best choice for your company.

Advantages to Owning:
  • Investment in an asset with the possibility to gain equity
  • The chance to refinance at a lower rate, and even pay off the property, freeing up money each month.
  • Flexibility to lease unused space to increase the return
  • Personal control of certain expenses
  • Less frequent moves, as leases expire, buildings sell, etc.
  • Able to make updates and changes to your property without needing a landlord's approval, also raising the value of your property.
  • Potential tax benefits, including income, property and depreciation
Leasing Advantages:
  • No down payment required, freeing money to grow your business up front
  • Maintenance, repairs and janitorial services are the responsibility of the landlord
  • Flexibility to terminate a lease rather than sell property in order to move or enlarge space
  • Allows you to determine if a new location is where you wish to remain long term
  • Moving may not be a necessity in an office complex should your business grow or reduce
The bottom line is would your equity and time be better invested in your business than maintaining a building? Regardless of your current or future town or state location, you will be pleased with Earl's Moving Company's experienced, friendly team. Licensed and insured to move local and long distance, this caring group will treat your office family as they do their own.

No Shortage of Activities in Alabaster!

Earl's Moving Company takes pride in moving folks home to Alabaster. This exciting city offers so much to all ages. It may be winter, but there is no shortage of reasons to move to this small town with big city conveniences.

Commercial Moving, Local MovingJanuary and February bring registration for baseball and soccer. This is an exciting time and a great way for the kids and adults as well to be involved in the community.

Alabaster participates in Arbor Day each February. With spring just around the corner, it helps to look forward to warmer weather by planning what to plant, and where. Stay tuned at the first of the month for details. Perhaps this is the year to plant a tree!

Looking forward to May, there will be a community yard sale at Buck Creek Park to celebrate the arrival of summer. What a great way to recycle, sell unneeded items and maybe find a treasure for yourself.

It is a beautiful, humbling site to drive down Highway 31 on Memorial Day and see all of the flags displayed to remember our Veterans who have given their lives for our country. Take a moment and express appreciation to a Veteran today for the sacrifices they choose to make for our freedom.

Summer months bring outdoor movie nights at Veterans Park. Bring a blanket and a picnic and relax for some fun family and friend time!

CityFest Celebration began in 2003 to celebrate our city's 50th anniversary. This has become one of the largest events in the area featuring live music, children's rides, games and other fun activities, a variety of food items and merchandisers selling crafts. The City of Alabaster and several local corporate donors sponsor this fun event that occurs the first Saturday each June.

Fourth of July brings celebrations of our great country with more flags, fun and fireworks! Choose the perfect spot from many places to park and enjoy the show.

Earl Pike was raised in Alabaster. He and his wife choose to remain here and raise their family in this impressive city that is committed to providing a safe, healthy and wholesome environment.

Considering Relocating Your Place of Business? - 101

There are many reasons for relocating part or all of your office or company. Perhaps your company has grown and needs more space, or the lease is going to expire and you are looking for a different environment, or moving to a completely different city or state. Relocating a business is much like relocating from a home.

Local Movers, Long Distance Movers, Commercial Movers

Considering an office move is exciting, bringing a change of scenery, new location, and a renewed determination to improve business performance. Along with this fresh start, a commercial move, just as a home move brings to mind some challenges. Never fear, with careful planning and communication, Earl's Moving Company is there with you every step of the way. Moving local or a short distance may sound easier than a long distance move. In some ways it may be. However, everything still needs to be packed and loaded, so organization is a key to success.

Begin thinking of a time frame. How soon would you like to move? Check the exit terms of your existing lease carefully. Also begin thinking about a moving budget.

Some things to consider are:
  • Move in costs to a new office space
  • Renovations if any are needed
  • IT costs
  • Actual relocating costs
  • Downtime in business during the move
The first step is to locate a new office space. When determining the future home of your business, whether local or long distance, consider your employees. Depending on the distance of the move, hopefully your most valuable employees will not be negatively impacted by a new drive, be able to commute, or even relocate if you are moving your office long distance. Communicate with them, sharing your desire to move and ask for their input to discover and possibly meet their needs.

Decide what type and how much office space you would prefer; a move in ready building, or a place to renovate and customize.  This will determine the amount of time you need to allow before moving. A location that is already outfitted with everything needed; a server room, cables, sockets, etc. makes it easy to get moved and right back to work. A general contractor is almost a necessity for a completely empty space to ensure the office is adequately cabled with sufficient power outlets in the right locations and all the modifications are completed on time and on budget.

As you are touring possible buildings, look around at the surroundings. Notice parking conditions, housing if employees may be relocating, hotels for possible overnight guests, restaurants and even shopping.

Office relocation is an exciting time, looking forward to new spaces, change of scenery and perhaps growth for your company. Bonded and insured, Earl's Moving Company is professional and experienced. Contact the friendly team for an affordable quote.
