Happenings in Helena - 101

Earl's Moving recommends the close community of Helena in Shelby County, Alabama as a great place to move.

Located in Shelby County, Helena is where the coal and iron industry began back in 1877. Helena continues to steadily grow and expand and is nationally recognized by several organizations as one of the best and safest places to live, work and play in Alabama! "In the last twenty years Helena has experienced rapid and steady growth and is now recognized as a prime location for new opportunity and continued development. While we work hard to preserve its rich history and heritage, we also work hard to ensure that opportunities for new residential, commercial and educational growth are extended and enhanced." ~ Mayor Mark Hall

Overall Helena is brimming with young families, but a number of young at heart senior citizens enjoy calling this active city with 'small town feel' home as well. Helena boasts activities as busy or as relaxing as you can wish for. Helena Sports Complex is the hot spot for all things "ball"; baseball, softball, soccer, football, basketball as well as cheerleading. The space also has meeting rooms, cafeteria and a kitchen available for rent. Special events are held at this spacious, comfortable location.

The first class schools located in Helena are second to none. Helena Elementary School is the home of the former Helena Junior High School which was opened in 1925. After many renovations and additions over the last 87 years, Helena Elementary is one of the largest elementary schools in the district with over 800 students and 87 faculty and staff members.

Almost 900 students in grades 3 - 5 call Helena Intermediate School their second home. The school opened in August 2001 and is part of the Shelby County Schools system. The school is proud of their contribution to the community by providing a state of the art media center, child nutrition program and after school program.

Over 800 students, grades 6, 7 and 8, attend Helena Middle School. The goal of the faculty and staff at Helena Middle School is to successfully transition 6th graders and preparing 7th and 8th graders for high school, then college. The middle school offers a number of electives and extracurricular activities. These include plenty of sports to choose from, art, band, choir, scholar's bowl, math team, and many others.

Over 1,000 students welcomed the new Helena High School opening in 2014. The students voted and chose the Huskies for the mascot, and black, silver and bright blue for the school colors. The new school features a modern media center with wireless environment, award winning band, almost 30 clubs and organizations, and an almost endless variety of sports to choose from. The school's mission is to provide rigorous, relevant, student-centered education that will equip all students with the essential skills necessary to succeed after high school.

Alabaster Advantages

Earl's Moving is proud to call Alabaster, AL Home!

Alabaster is located just 17 miles south of Birmingham. It is convenient to downtown, but far enough from the city to be laid back, the way we like it! For convenience, the interstate is just minutes from almost anywhere in the City of Alabaster. Also convenient for most of the shopping, banking, and medical care you will need. Alabaster has experienced growth for the last 10 years, full of life with a close, small town feel.
Alabaster's YMCA will again host fifth-quarter parties after Alabaster football games this season
New retail opens regularly allowing for a large variety of shopping. Be it name brand clothing, play clothes for the kids, even maternity clothes for the soon to be mommy, or shoes for the entire family, Alabaster most likely has what you need!

Perhaps with fall approaching quickly, you need sporting equipment. Never fear, there is a local sporting goods store right down the road, reading material for those book reports, furniture for your new home, and even a jewelry store for yourself or gifts.

Need to update your home? Never fear! There are furniture, home improvement and electronics and appliance stores just around the corner! Even get your football attire locally! Unlimited specialty foods, baked goods and cakes, and of course, everyone's favorite coffee

There are no shortage of restaurants in the city! Choose from favorites like Italian and Mexican cuisine. What is your family's choice tonight? Steak? Sandwich? Or a restaurant everyone can choose their favorite?

Alabaster certainly has no shortage of medical care. Known as Main Street Medical Mile, the long corridor down Highway 31 features hundreds of physicians, clinics and medical providers in as many specialties as you can imagine such as maternity care, heart care, pediatrics, oncologydentistry and orthodontics.

Alabaster City Schools separated from Shelby County in 2013 and continue to exceed expectations. The mission of the schools is to partner with families and the community to inspire and prepare graduates to be responsible and productive champions of their future. The city currently has two elementary schools, an intermediate, a sixth grade center, a middle school and a high school.

Earl Pike was raised in Alabaster, and chooses to raise his family in this city with small town feel and big town conveniences. Let Earl's Moving move you home!

Why Does Earl's Moving Enjoy Alabaster?

It is a well known fact that Alabaster is a wonderful place to raise a family.

Alabaster is a well rounded community with a wide variety of entertainment, recreation, healthcare and retail. These are just a few of the things that make Alabaster a great place to live as well as do business. Entertainment is almost a daily activity in this down to earth city.

August brings fall sports registrations for baseball, softball, basketball and soccer for the family. Our award winning schools have started this month.

If you enjoy football, there is nothing better to get the fall started than attending the games as the Thompson High School Warriors take on area schools.

September and October bring activities for senior citizens as well. Choose from outings, exercise classes, book clubs and other activities. Click here to learn more.

You don't want to miss the annual Christmas parade, one of Alabama's largest parades. The parade is sponsored by the city's Beautification Board and is held in early December each year. Over 100 entries join the parade including floats from local churches, our schools and civic organizations. Also participating are city and county officials, scouts, dance troops, motorcycles, car clubs, horses and of course Santa Claus!

Earl Pike was raised in Alabaster. He and his wife choose to remain there and raise their family in this city that is committed to providing a safe, healthy and wholesome environment.
