Pelham on the Move!

The settlement of Shelbyville was renamed Pelham in honor of Major John Pelham. July 10, 1964 the city of Pelham was formed, the previous settlement of Shelbyville.  Growing from a population of 654 to approximately 22,000 today, Pelham is one of the quickest growing communities in Alabama. All age groups are attracted to this laid back, yet busy area with attractions for all. Oak Mountain State Park
Over 64 restaurants of any choice, 13 hotels, healthcare including dentists, pet care, automotive dealers and repair shops, banks, plenty of local and family owned shopping as well as many chains are located within the area. 

There is recreation in abundance beginning with the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena, the only public skating rink the Birmingham area. Complete with two NHL sized ice arenas, skating school and 7,000 square feet of elegant banquet and conference, Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena is the ideal space to showcase your special event. The spacious, inviting venue is a perfect place for trade shows, corporate meetings and events, sporting contests, even weddings, receptions, and family reunions. 

Pelham Raquet Club offers world class tennis including tournaments, league play, and socials.

Ballantrae Golf Course achieved it's name from the Scottish themed residential community. Ballantrae Golf Club meanders through a scenic valley surrounded by gorgeous southern Birmingham woodlands and breathtaking views.

Pelham is proud to include Alabama's largest state park, Oak Mountain State Park, in the list of attractions. Over 10,000 acres provide activities including camping, lodging, playgrounds, beaches, horseback riding, fishing, petting farm, golf course, miles of hiking trails and much more. The Birmingham Stage Race, archery classes and nature programs are just the beginning of a long list the events hosted by Oak Mountain State Park. We are blessed to have a vacation for a day or a week right in our own back yard! Beautiful, peaceful and fun are words that describe this amazing park.

The Oak Mountain Amphitheatre is the largest outdoor theatre in Alabama with a capacity of 10,500. The Theatre has hosted some of the biggest artists in the world, performing live on stage. With adequate parking, nearby restaurants and excellent seats, it is an enjoyable time for all!

The Pelham Library offers plenty of attractions for adults and children as well. Adults will enjoy book clubs and classes for computers, history, gardening, and fashion just to name a few. Summer reading programs and story time entice children of all ages. 

Pelham Senior Center is the place to be if you have free time and want to have some fun! Provided by the City of Pelham and under the direction of the Pelham Public Library, this is a fabulous place to meet new friends, bring forever friends and enjoy the many activities offered. There is never a dull moment with events including guest speakers, musical programs, trips, book clubs, dance and art classes, the list just goes on and on.
